Scripture:

1 CHRONICLES 23:1-25:31

Everything In Its Place

Then David said, “From all the Levites, 24,000 will supervise the work at the Temple of the Lord. Another 6,000 will serve as officials and judges. Another 4,000 will work as gatekeepers, and 4,000 will praise the Lord with the musical instruments I have made.” Then David divided the Levites into divisions named after the clans descended from the three sons of Levi—Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
1 Chronicles 23:4-6

My Takeaways

Something Old

When David was an old man, he appointed his son Solomon to be king over Israel.
1 Chronicles 23:1

Something New

  • David would not be the one to build the Temple, but he would have everything ready.
  • David gathered funds and materials.
  • David planned the administration of the Temple, and arranged worship services.
  • Ezra also needed to give this very valuable information to a new generation rebuilding the Temple after the return from exile.
  • We have a record of the organization that is needed for smooth and effective worship in the Temple.
  • David wanted God’s people to know and experience the presence of God in their midst as He made the Temple His dwelling place.
  • There is only One who loved God with all of His heart, mind, and strength…no failures.
  • We see that the Temple, as great as the plan is, is just a glimpse into the One who is worthy of the presence of the Lord.

Something To Do

When I come to lists that confuse me in Scripture, may I go deep to see what I need to learn about God through His Word. It is all about Him.
