Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
Psalm 127:1

I love this Spurgeon quote!

Unless

• except under the circumstances that; except on the condition that

Vain:

• ineffectual or unsuccessful; futile: vain hopes; a vain effort; a vain war.
• without real significance, value, or importance; baseless or worthless:

The psalmist knows:

• that God is essential to and should be part of our work.
• anything done a part from God is worthless and unsuccessful.

When we leave God out of our building:

• Sleep is restless.
• Life is anxious.
• Blessings are missed.

Covenant fulfilled-

The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore. They were very contented, with plenty to eat and drink.
1 Kings 4:20

I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.
