But the Lord told him, “You wanted to build the Temple to honor my name. Your intention is good, but you are not the one to do it. One of your own sons will build the Temple to honor me.“
1 Kings 8:18-19
Sometimes our intentions are enough to be chosen by God to do “the thing.”
Don’t pout.
Even though our intentions aren’t good enough, we:
- Don’t always get to do what we want to do for the Lord.
- Should remain faithful even though we don’t get to do “the thing.”
- Realize God is more concerned about the accomplishing of His plan, in His time, and His way, than He is about my hurt feelings.
- Must remember that He works all things out for the good of everyone who loves Him and is called according to His purpose.
- Focus loving Him and being in alignment with His plan for our life.
Here are some great verses for when we don’t get to do “the thing,” and are asked to do “another thing,” or sit “things” out altogether.
- Never grow tired of doing good.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9 (NIV) - Place confidence in Christ to complete the work.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) - Detach from the things of this world.
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
Hebrews 12:1b (NIV) - Work to please God, not men.
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
Colossians 3:23 - Stay faithful when others desert us.
for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
2 Timothy. 4:10 (NIV)
There, before the Ark, King Solomon and the entire community of Israel sacrificed so many sheep, goats, and cattle that no one could keep count!1 Kings 8:5Oh, that the sacrifices I make for Kingdom growth, advancement of the gospel, and personal sanctification would be more than God can count.Oh, how grateful I am that I don’t have to make sacrifices to satisfy my sin!
Don’t pout when someone else gets to do “the thing.”
