Scripture:

1 KINGS 3:16-28, 1 KINGS 5:1-18, 2 CHRONICLES 2:1-18, 1 KINGS 6:1-13, 2 CHRONICLES 3:1-14, 1 KINGS 6:14-38

The Right Kind of Leaders

When all Israel heard the king’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice.
1 Kings 3:28

My Takeaways

Something Old

Like Solomon, good leaders have both the wisdom and courage to do what is right.

About leaders.

  • Serves rather than desires to be served.
It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
    Jesus – Matthew 20:26-28 (ESV)
  • Leads by example, and the example is Jesus.
The authority by which the Christian leader leads is not power but love, not force but example, not coercion but reasoned persuasion. Leaders have power, but power is safe only in the hands of those who humble themselves to serve.” – John Stott
  • Seeks to make God and God’s name famous.
A minister may fill his pews, his communion roll, the mouths of the public, but what that minister is on his knees in secret before God Almighty, that he is and no more.” – John Owen
  • Considers others interests before his own.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others
    Paul – Philippians 2:4 (ESV)

Our response to leaders

  • Pray for our current leaders to have these qualities.
  • Vote for those who exhibit these qualities.
  • Submit to their leadership until God replaces them.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (ESV)

Something New

The man power to build the Temple astounds me.Solomon decided to build a Temple to honor the name of the Lord, and also a royal palace for himself. He enlisted a force of 70,000 laborers, 80,000 men to quarry stone in the hill country, and 3,600 foremen.
2 Chronicles 2:1

Something To Do

This is what I am supposed to do:Pray for our current leaders to have these qualities.Vote for those who exhibit these qualities.

Submit to their leadership until God replaces them.
