Scripture:

NUMBERS 30:1-31:54

Gathered to Your People

Then the Lord said to Moses, “On behalf of the people of Israel, take revenge on the Midianites for leading them into idolatry. After that, you will die and join your ancestors.”Numbers 31:1-2

My Takeaways

Something Old

So Moses said to the people, “Choose some men, and arm them to fight the Lord’s war of revenge against Midian.”
Numbers 31:3

Something New

  • We are nearing the end of the Wilderness Wanderings in the life of Israel.
  • God is preparing Israel to be His instrument of judgment in Midian and as they enter the Promised Land.
  • God is right to judge…both Midian and Moses.
  • God did not reject Moses.
  • We often lose sight of the holiness of God…and so did Moses. (Numbers 20; Deuteronomy 32:48-52)
  • Moses disqualified himself from entering the Promised Land.
  • The greatness of Moses did not make him free from sin or its consequences.
  • God used Moses with his ability to recklessly react, whether to defend a Hebrew slave or investigate a burning bush.
  • Forty years of herding sheep trained Moses for forty years of herding people.
  • God did not change Moses before He used him.
  • God took Moses’ characteristics and molded them to be used for His purposes.

Something To Do

May I remember that God is not waiting to change me to use me, but is continuing to mold me with my characteristics and abilities to be used for His purposes and His Kingdom. He is not done with me yet.
