One day the LORD said to Moses, “Climb one of the mountains east of the river, and look out over the land I have given the people of Israel. After you have seen it, you will die like your brother, Aaron.”
Numbers 27:12-13
How do I feel when things don’t turn out like I thought?
Moses demonstrated the proper response.
- Accept the change.
The LORD replied, “Take Joshua son of Nun, who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.”
Numbers 27:18 - Help the transition.
He presented Joshua to Eleazar the priest and the whole community.
Numbers 27:22b - Support the new plan.
The LORD replied, “Take Joshua son of Nun, who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him. Present him to Eleazar the priest before the whole community, and publicly commission him to lead the people. Transfer some of your authority to him so the whole community of Israel will obey him.”
Numbers 27:18-20 - Continue to obey the Lord.
So, Moses did as the LORD commanded.
Numbers 27:22a
What we should know about God’s plans:
- “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”
Job 42:2 (ESV)
- The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
- Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.
Proverbs 19:21 (ESV)
Transfer some of your authority to him so the whole community of Israel will obey him.
Numbers 27:20
“Some of” intrigues me. I wonder what it means. Why would Joshua be ordained with all of Moses power and authority? Is it because Moses had more leading to do?
Live my life in complete obedience, however, when my disobedience changes my direction, accept the change and realign myself rightly with the Lord.
