Scripture:

NUMBERS 14:1-15:41

Walking in Circles

Now tell them this: ‘As surely as I live, declares the LORD, I will do to you the very things I heard you say. You will all drop dead in this wilderness! Because you complained against me, every one of you who is twenty years old or older and was included in the registration will die. You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
Numbers 14:28-30

My Takeaways

Something Old

Do not rebel against the LORD, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the LORD is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!”
Numbers 14:9

Something New

  • Before the Israelites began their wanderings, they were already walking in circles.
  • They were walking between rebellion against God and accepting His gracious provision for them.
  • They refused to enter God’s open door.
  • They would wander for 40 years…with God providing everything they needed.
  • Unbelief had deadly consequences.
  • 2 million people walked out of Egypt. 603,550 men over the age of 20, and only two of those walked into the Promised Land.
  • Moses speaks of the consequences as he watches an average of 90 people a day die, for 40 years.
  • Psalm 90

Something To Do

Be ever thankful for the cross of Jesus Christ, and the provision for my sin that God has made.
