My Takeaways

Something Old

Half the tribe of Manasseh and the tribes of Reuben and Gad had already received their grants of land on the east side of the Jordan, for Moses, the servant of the Lord, had previously assigned this land to them.
Joshua 13:8

Something New

  • The land to the east of the Jordan River had been settled when the King of Sihon and the King of Og had been defeated.
  • After the central campaign of Jericho and Ai, Joshua led the Israelites in the campaign in the south.
  • After a successful southern campaign, Joshua led the Israelites in the campaign in the north.
  • Now that the conquest of the land is complete, the tribal inheritances will be distributed.
  • The book of Joshua gives us a historical record of the two kings defeated in the Trans-Jordan region, and the thirty-one kings defeated in Canaan.
  • The list would have been a list of places well known to the original audience of the book.
  • The list shows us that no matter how long the list of enemies, God has victory over them all.
  • The same God that defeated the long list of kings in Joshua, is the same God that defeats enemies now.

Something To Do

Trust that the King of Kings will defeat all enemies.
