He tells us everything over and over- one line at time, one line at time, a little here and a little there! Isaiah 28:10
My Takeaways
Something Old
The Word of God can either raise us or trip us.
The precept upon precept will do one of two things:
capture and trap us, keeping us close to God through its power of conviction and instruction, causing us to run toward the Lord. Or
capture and trap us, making us angry, bitter, and keeping us running from the Lord.
1 John 2:27 (Pick your favorite and roll around in its truth and freedom.)
But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him. (ESV)
But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do]. (AMPC)
But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, in your hearts, so that you don’t need anyone to teach you what is right. For he teaches you all things, and he is the Truth, and no liar; and so, just as he has said, you must live in Christ, never to depart from him. (TLB)
Praise God!!
His tender mercies and steadfast patience, He tells us over and over again. Hallelujah, that He is not deterred by my hissy fits and tantrums. He is patient in teaching me, giving me all I can take one line at a time.
“This also implies that we can’t receive all aspects of God’s message at once. ‘It is an excellent thing that the gospel is taught us by degrees. It is not forced home upon men’s minds all at once, but it comes thus, ‘Precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little and there a little.’ God does not flash the everlasting daylight on weak eyes in one blaze of glory, but there is at first a dim dawn, and the soft incoming of a tender light for tender eyes, and so by degrees we see. ‘” – Charles Spurgeon
Something New
Have mercy.
Exactly how much drinking was going on in Israel. On more than one occasion the Lord refers to them as the glorious crown of the drunk of Israel. (Isaiah 28:1 and 3)
The leaders, priests, and prophets had a problem with alcohol also: the priests and prophets stagger with alcohol and lose themselves in wine. (Isaiah 28:7)
Something To Do
Rush the application not the teaching of God’s Word.
