My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me.
Hosea 4:6a
God says of His people:
- being destroyed because they don’t know me. (Hosea 4:6)
- robbed of understanding because of wine. (Hosea 4:11)
- foolish because the long for idols. (Hosea 4:12)
- guilty of prostitution for the worship other gods. (Hosea 4:12)
- offensive to me because they offer sacrifices in hills. (Hosea 4:13)
Therefore, may we do what they did not. Let’s wholeheartedly commit to:
- Know God
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3:18a (ESV)
- We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:6-7 (ESV)
Stay sober
- Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:13 (ESV)
- Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.

Romans 12:1 (ESV)
The words of Hosea and Jeremiah are almost identical. God cared so much for them. He lovingly sent warnings with messengers of why He was disappointed in them, and would discipline them, AND even used the same phrases.
They have exchanged the glory of God for the shame of idols.
Hosea 4:7b
Has any nation ever traded its gods for new ones, even though they are not gods at all? Yet my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols!
Jeremiah 2:11
Live up to God’s expectations of me, or don’t expect His blessing, favor and watch-care over my life.
