Scripture:

AMOS 1:1-6:14

Fat Cows

Listen to me, you fat cows living in Samaria, you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy, and who are always calling to your husbands, “Bring us another drink!”The Sovereign LORD has sworn this by his holiness:“The time will come when you will be led away with hooks in your noses.Every last one of you will be dragged away like a fish on a hook! You will be led out through the ruins of the wall;you will be thrown from your fortresses,” says the LORD.
Amos 4:1-3

My Takeaways

Something Old

….”But still you would not return to me,” says the LORD.
Amos 4:11b

Something New

  • Amos was from Judah, but a prophet to Israel.
  • God calls Amos to prophesy to the “family” and remind them of their purpose.
  • God had chosen Israel of all the families of the earth.
  • God would hold them to a greater responsibility because of the position He had given them.
  • Israel had agreed to the covenant.
  • Israel had been warned.
  • Amos condemns them for their lifestyle of amassing wealth alongside injustice to the poor.
  • God appeals for Israel to return to Him–but they will not.
  • The missing vertical relationship with God was made evident in their horizontal relationship with others.

Something To Do

May I see others as God sees them.
