Jeroboam’s influence was long lasting and deep in destruction.

My actions have lasting significance.  How am I using my influence, for the advancement of me or the gospel and growth of Kingdom?

Evil

• Angers God
• Sets God’s discipline in motion
  So, the LORD was very angry with Israel, and He allowed King Hazael of Aram and his son Ben-hadad to defeat them repeatedly.
  2 Kings 13:3

Confession without repentance is lip-service and disrespectful to our Holy God.

• Confession is admitting you sinned. (Not made a mistake.)
• Repentance is taking action to change your behavior that led to the sin.
  Then Jehoahaz prayed for the LORD’s help, and the LORD heard his prayer.

Israel confessed without repentance. They didn’t like the discipline from the sin, cried out to God with half-hearted prayer.

“Israel’s repentance was only half-hearted; they repented because they suffered. They repented because of the suffering rather than because of the sin. They went back to the sin after they escaped from the sorrow.” – Charles Spurgeon

• Do I regularly confess my sin, and actively repent from sin?
• Am I serious about repentance, or half-hearted?

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
1 John 1:9

• Faithful and just to forgive
• Faithful to cleanse us from ALL wickedness

We can’t take advantage of the generous grace of God.
