2 CHRONICLES 21:8-20, 2 KINGS 8:23-29, 2 CHRONICLES 22:1-7, 2 KINGS 9:1-10:17, 2 CHRONICLES 22:8-9, 2 KINGS 10:18-31

A Divided Heart

But Jehu did not obey the Law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam had led Israel to commit.
2 Kings 10:31

My Takeaways

Something Old

Herein he discovers his hypocrisy, that he follows God as far as his interest would permit… but no further.” – Matthew Poole

  • Limiting God’s access to my heart, limits the work He can accomplish in and through me.
He blessed Jehu by giving him a family dynasty though, but Jehu continued Jeroboam’s idolatrous practices. (2 Kings 10:29, 31; 12:26–30),
  • Limited allegiance to God receives limited blessing and favor from God.
Because Jehu’s alignment with idolatry, God reduces the size of Israel and gave power to Hazael of Syria. (2 Kings 10:32–33).
  • Limiting God’s access to my heart and allegiance to Him alone, is not good for me nor God’s Kingdom.

My random thoughts…

It is easier to be vehement against the abominations of others than to judge and put away your own secret sins.” – F.B. Meyer

  • I am going to yield to who or what I am aligned to?
  • Imagine for a minute what God could do with total access to my heart.
  • Imagine what God could do with an undivided Church.
  • Dare I ask the Lord how limited His access to my heart is?
  • Dare I ask the Lord to whom or to what, other than Him, have I yielded my allegiance?
  • Be ready for the answer and my response.

How terrible a warning is the story of this man – that it is possible to be an instrument in the hand of God and yet never be in fellowship with Him.” – G.C Morgan

Something New

Ahaziah’s mother encouraged him to do wrong. Wow.

Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong.
2 Chronicles 22:3

Something To Do

Allow Holy Spirit to examine my heart thoroughly and respond well to what He reveals.
