Scripture:

ISAIAH 48:12-52:12

Engraved

Yet Jerusalem says, “The Lord has deserted us;the Lord has forgotten us.”

“Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible,I would not forget you!See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.Always in my mind is a picture of Jerusalem’s walls in ruins.
Isaiah 49:14-16

My Takeaways

Something Old

This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
Isaiah 48:17a

Something New

  • Isaiah spoke to the Israelites that would be suffering in exile under the Babylonians.
  • God had not forgotten His people.
  • God’s people too often forgot Him.
  • God had inscribed, engraved them in the palm of His hand.
  • John 10:28-29
  • “I am graven on the palms of His hands. I am never out of His mind. All of my knowledge of Him depends on His sustained initiative in knowing me. I know Him, because He first knew me, and continues to know me. He knows me as a friend, One Who loves me, and there is no moment when His eye is off me; or His attention distracted from me, and no moment therefore, when His care falters.” – J.I. Packer
  • In Ancient times, a slave would bear the mark of his master.
  • The Master inscribed the servants’ name on His palm.
  • Before the Throne of God Above

Something To Do

Never forget that God sees, God knows, and God cares. Scripture shows us we are engraved in His hands.
