Scripture:

ISAIAH 44:6-48:11

The Refinement Of Suffering

I have refined you, but not as silver is refined. Rather, I have refined you in the furnace of suffering.
Isaiah 48:10

My Takeaways

Something Old

Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried and chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
Isaiah 48:10 (AMPC)

Refine:

  • to bring to a fine or a pure state; free from impurities
  • to refine metal, sugar, or petroleum; to purify from what is coarse, vulgar, or debasing; make elegant or cultured
  • to bring to a finer state or form by purifying

How can suffering refine us?

  • Reflect on my life and reevaluate what’s really important.
  • Realize the brevity of life and make adjustments to appreciate the brevity.
  • Reminisce of days gone by, learn something from them.
  • Receive and soak in His mercy, grace and love.

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:6-7 (ESV)

Something New

Constant theme in yesterday and today’ reading:I am the LORD.

I created the heavens and earth. There is no other.

Something To Do

Allow suffering to refine me, and God to rescue me through the process.
