Scripture:

ISAIAH 34:1-35:10, MICAH 2:1-5:15

Won’t you be my neighbor?

What sorrow awaits you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. You rise at dawn and hurry to carry them out, simply because you have the power to do so.When you want a piece of land, you find a way to seize it.When you want someone’s house, you take it by fraud and violence. You cheat a man of his property, stealing his family’s inheritance.
Micah 2:1-2

My Takeaways

Something Old

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf.
Micah 5:2

Something New

  • Micah spoke to Israel and Judah.
  • During Micah’s time both kingdoms were in a time of peace.
  • This time of peace allowed the rich to expand their wealth.
  • Unfortunately, they did so through the oppression of the poor.
  • The wealth of both nations led to greater distance from the Lord.
  • Micah told the people that God was displeased with them.
  • The way they treated others did not reflect God’s Kingdom principles.
  • They disregarded Mosaic law and God’s protections for the poor and vulnerable in society.
  • God declared that the people had forgotten their neighbors because they had forgotten Him.
  • Luke 10:25-37
  • Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Something To Do

Remember that God put us all here together and expects us to care for each other…we are all neighbors.
