Scripture:

GENESIS 42:1-45:15

Learning From and Leaving Our Past

So please, my lord, let me stay here as a slave instead of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers.
Genesis 44:33

My Takeaways

Something Old

When we see in Judah’s life that time can:

  • enable us to clearly see the mistakes/sins of our past and prevent us from repeating them.
  • make us more empathic and tenderhearted.
  • heal.
  • teach.
  • hurt if we continue to dwell there.

can: to have the power or means to:

  • Own and confess your sin to God.
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.
    Psalm 51:4 NLT
  • Own and confess your sin to another.
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
    James 5:16 ESV

Moving past your mistakes

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Something New

Years of pain finally is released. I can’t even imagine.

Now he turned away from them and began to weep. When he regained his composure, he spoke to them again. Then he chose Simeon from among them and had him tied up right before their eyes.
Genesis 42:24

Something To Do

Deal with my sin. Don’t dwell there. Don’t deny it.
