Scripture:

EXODUS 10:1-12:51

Reservation for Rescue

On this night the LORD kept his promise to bring his people out of the land of Egypt. So this night belongs to him, and it must be commemorated every year by all the Israelites, from generation to generation.
Exodus 12:42

My Takeaways

Something Old

  • Our covenant keeping God has a plan for our deliverance.
God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.
    Exodus 2:24-25

New Testament Answer
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:20 ESV

  • The plan will be a grand display of His power and will work out for our good.
So, the people of Israel did just as the Lord had commanded through Moses and Aaron. And that night at midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn son of the prisoner in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed.
    Exodus 12:28-29

New Testament Answer
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
Ephesians 3:20 ESV

  • We will be richer (not necessarily monetarily) and stronger than before.
The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So, they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth!
    Exodus 12:36

New Testament Answer
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Psalm 1:1-3 ESV

  • His rescue should be celebrated and remembered.
On this night the Lord kept his promise to bring his people out of the land of Egypt. So, this night belongs to him, and it must be commemorated every year by all the Israelites, from generation to generation.
    Exodus 12:42

New Testament Answer
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
Psalm 28:7

  • The plan will be orderly and will not cause confusion.
On that very day the Lord brought the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt like an army.
    Exodus 12:51

New Testament Answer
For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints
1 Corinthians 14:33 ESV

I never noticed that Pharaoh called for Moses.

Finally, Pharaoh called for Moses. “Go and worship the Lord,” he said. “But leave your flocks and herds here. You may even take your little ones with you.
