Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take the Levites as substitutes for the firstborn sons of the people of Israel.”
Numbers 3:44-45a

List all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who are eligible to serve in the Tabernacle.
Numbers 4:3

• God has placed Israel in formation around the Tabernacle.
• God says that all firstborn males belong to Him. (Exodus 12:29)
• Instead of taking each firstborn from all the tribes into service to Him, God allows the Levites to stand in as their substitute.
• There are 22,273 firstborn males in Israel, and 22,000 Levite males.
• The price for the remaining 273 is paid. (Numbers 3:47-48)
• This is a picture of how Jesus is our substitute.
• Because of our sin, we deserve what the firstborn Egyptians got…death.
• God’s wrath passes over us when we put our faith in Jesus who received the penalty as our substitute. (Mark 10:45)
• There was no remainder….Jesus paid it all.
