Leviticus 14:32a

Tohar (to’-har): purity, purifying

From taher (taw-hare’): literally brightness; ceremonially purification — clearness, glory, purifying.(Physically, ceremonially, morally.)

Dictionary.com

• the act or process of making something pure and free of any contaminating, debasing, or foreign elements
• the act of making something free of guilt or evil
• the act or process of making something clean and fit for ceremonial or ritual use

If Jesus fulfilled the law, are New Testament believers responsible for being pure?

We are responsible for presenting ourselves pure to the Lord.

• Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
  2 Corinthians 7:1 ESV
• Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like Him, for we will see Him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as He is pure.

• Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart.

I love this connection between Leviticus 12:8 and Luke 2:22-24. It reveals the economic status of Joseph and Mary.

If a woman cannot afford to bring a lamb, she must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons.
Leviticus 12:8a

When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”

Purity matters to the Lord. He is holy, I should meet Him in purity of mind, body, soul, and spirit.
