Scripture:

EXODUS 37:1-39:31

Type and Shadow

This is an inventory of the materials used in building the Tabernacle of the Covenant. The Levites compiled the figures, as Moses directed, and Ithamar son of Aaron the priest served as recorder.
Exodus 38:21

My Takeaways

Something Old

He made two cherubim from hammered gold and placed them on the two ends of the atonement cover. He molded the cherubim on each end of the atonement cover, making it all of one piece of gold. The cherubim faced each other and looked down on the atonement cover. With their wings spread above it, they protected it.
Exodus 37:7-9

Something New

  • God desires to dwell with His people.
  • The tabernacle is a tented palace for Israel’s divine King.
  • The tabernacle reminds us of Eden.
  • It has an east facing entrance guarded by cherubim.
  • The tree of life is pictured by the lampstand.
  • The tree of knowledge is pictured by the Law.
  • God’s dwelling in the tabernacle was a step toward the restoration of paradise which will be completed in the new heaven and new earth in Revelation 21-22.
  • Jesus is the true tabernacle. John 1:14; 2 Corinthians 6:16
  • Jesus’ body is the curtain. Matthew 27:51; Hebrews 10:19-20
  • Jesus is the great high priest over the house of God. Hebrews 10:21-22
  • Jesus is the full and final sacrifice. John 1:29; Hebrews 10:10,12,14

Something To Do

May I remember that the entire story of God’s redemptive plan for His people is because He loves us.
