For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7
Concealers: Something that hides another thing (makeup hides the blemishes, but doesn’t remove them).
- Strongholds: say,
“This or these have a hold on, or influence over me.” (Not all strongholds are negative.)
- Self-Centeredness: says,
“This is my life. I come first, and if I want to, I will help others.”
- Self-Sufficiency: says,
“I have the power, authority, means, and know how to do what I want, when I want, and how I want.”
Correctors: Something that corrects another thing
- Power
Dunamis (Greek): (miraculous) power, might, strength, power to achieve by applying the Lord’s inherent abilities. Power through God’s ability. - Love
Agapé: love, goodwill, love which centers in moral preference on what God prefers. - Self-discipline
Sóphronismos: (so-fron-is-moss ) prudent, sensible behavior that “fits” a situation; aptly acting out God’s will by doing what He calls sound reasoning.
In order for us to remain faithful to the faith and the teachings we’ve be taught, we have to be diligent to:
- Use our dumanis power to correct the negative strongholds in our life and live in His power to accomplish His work in our life.
- Allow God’s agapé in us to flow through and overcome our selfishness so others can experience the same love, mercy, grace, and kindness we’ve experienced.
- Agree to yield to sóphronismos, the reasoning and leading of Holy Spirit, rather than our misguided and impulsive ways
We have it in us to live the life He has called us to live.
- By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence. And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
2 Peter 1:3-4
God gives:
- power to break strongholds.
- love to neutralize self-centeredness.
- self-discipline to suppress self-sufficiency.
As you know, everyone from the province of Asia has deserted me—even Phygelus and Hermogenes.
2 Timothy 1:15
Who are Phygelus and Hermogenes?
This is the only place in the Bible these two are mentioned, and are mentioned only because of their unfaithfulness.
Live the life I’ve been given, in the power, love, and self-discipline that I have been given.
