“Because of the violence you did to your close relatives in Israel, you will be filled with shame and destroyed forever. When they were invaded, you stood aloof, refusing to help them. Foreign invaders carried off their wealth and cast lots to divide up Jerusalem, but you acted like one of Israel’s enemies.”

You have been deceived by your own pride because you live in a rock fortress and make your home high in the mountains.

• Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament.
• Obadiah brings a prophecy of judgment against Edom.
• Obadiah means “worshiper of Yahweh”.
• “Obadiah’s singular focus points to a significant, albeit difficult, truth about humanity’s relationship with God: when people remove themselves from or place themselves in opposition to God’s people, they can expect judgment, rather than restoration, at the end of life.” – Chuck Swindoll
• Edom has been found guilty of pride before the Lord.
• Edom thought of themselves as able to mock, steal from, and even harm God’s chosen people.
• God reminds Edom of the poor treatment of its brother…His people.
• God held Edom accountable for not being its brother’s keeper.
• Edom eventually disappeared into history.
• Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Remember the destructive power of pride, and the consequences of living in a self-serving manner. I am under God’s authority and need to submit to His purposes, and to find my hope in being His.
