So I bought the field at Anathoth, paying Hanamel seventeen pieces of silver for it.
Jeremiah 32:9
“Only a fool would buy, or expect another to buy, in such circumstances!” – Arthur E. Cundall
“Now, this was a strange purchase for a rational man to make. Prudence could not justify it; it was purchasing an estate which was utterly valueless.” – Charles Spurgeon
When do I obey?
- Every time God tells you to do something.
The buts of obeying God:
- Was that really God speaking or my thinking?
You recognize the voice of the people you spend time with, so spend time with God.
God will not ask of you anything that is illegal or not in alignment with His Word.
- How will I pay for this or make this happen?
Obedience builds trust; you learn to trust Him and He learns to trust you.
If He called you to it, He will provide what is necessary to accomplish it.
- Would God really ask me to do something that doesn’t make any sense?
History says, “yes.”
– Noah to build an ark.
– Pharaoh’s adopted, murdering, stuttering son to free His people.
– Isaac to leave everything.
– Jonah to call a heathen nation to repentance.
– A shepherd boy to lead a nation.
Obedience hinges on one word, love.
- If you love me, obey me;…
John 14:15a (TLB)
- When you obey me you are living in my love, just as I obey my Father and live in his love.
John 15:10 (TLB)
- And you are my friends if you obey me.
John 15:14 (TLB)
- Loving God means doing what he tells us to do, and really, that isn’t hard at all.
1 John 5:3 (TLB)
