Scripture:

EZEKIEL 14:1-16:63

The Vine

“And this is what the Sovereign LORD says: The people of Jerusalem are like grapevines growing among the trees of the forest. Since they are useless, I have thrown them on the fire to be burned'”
Ezekiel 15:6

My Takeaways

Something Old

“Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests? “
Ezekiel 14 3

Something New

  • Ezekiel is announcing the coming judgment of God.
  • He does this through signs, visions, sermons, and parables.
  • The parable of the fruitless vine is in Ezekiel 15.
  • Judah had been God’s choice vine, but they were useless – no fruit!
  • Because of their sins of idolatry and immorality, the people of Israel were about to go into exile in a foreign nation.
  • The fruitless nation would be removed, just like a fruitless vine.
  • Jerusalem was still standing when Ezekiel gave this parable, but not for much longer.
  • The fruitless vinewood was about to be completely burned.
  • Jesus will remind us of this same relationship with the vine.
  • John 15:1-6
  • 1 John 3:24
  • God wants to see spiritual fruit in the lives of His people.
  • God has no room for dried up vines…then or now!

Something To Do

Remain in the vine. Be fruitful.
