Scripture:

EZEKIEL 10:1-13:23

Gone

Then the glory of the Lord moved out from the entrance of the Temple and hovered above the cherubim. And as I watched, the cherubim flew with their wheels to the east gate of the Lord’s Temple. And the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them.
Ezekiel 10:18-19

My Takeaways

Something Old

These were the same living beings I had seen beneath the God of Israel when I was by the Kebar River. I knew they were cherubim, for each had four faces and four wings and what looked like human hands under their wings. And their faces were just like the faces of the beings I had seen at the Kebar, and they traveled straight ahead, just as the others had.
Ezekiel 10:20-22

Something New

  • Judah lost sight of the fact that God doesn’t limit Himself to one place.
  • God chose to make His presence felt in a special way in the Temple.
  • It was not the only place that God could be.
  • During the time of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, the people felt that God could never leave the Temple.
  • If God could never leave the Temple, then it could never be destroyed.
  • If the Lord was not limited to the Temple, then He could go with the remnant into exile and protect them.
  • God never abandons His children.
  • Judah would learn this.
  • coram Deo: before the sight of God
  • coram Deo reminds us that we live for an audience of one: the Lord God. Walking before God and living to glorify Him will affect all areas of our lives, and we should be ready to tell others about our purpose of living for Jesus.

Something To Do

Live in the reality that our God is near at all times. Coram Deo.
