Scripture:

JEREMIAH 49:1-33, 2 KINGS 24:5-7, 2 CHRONICLES 36:6-8, 2 KINGS 24:8-9, 2 CHRONICLES 36:9, JEREMIAH 22:24-23:32

Staying Power

“Go up and attack that complacent nation,” says the LORD. “Its people live alone in the desert without walls or gates.”
Jeremiah 49:31

My Takeaways

Something Old

Who was Kedar?

  • A Arabic people group who descended from Ishmael.
Here is a list, by their names and clans, of Ishmael’s descendants: The oldest was Nebaioth, followed by Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
    Genesis 25:13 (Isaiah 21:13-17 Ezekiel 27:21)

Who was Hazor? (Kingdoms of Hazor)

Some think Hazor was:

  • An Arab settlement of nomads in southern Palestine.
  • Arab people previously nomadic but settled in places that didn’t have walls.
  • People of the East associated with the Midanites and Amalekites who invade Israelite territory during the days of Judges.

Nebuchadnezzar would make desolation among the people of Kedar, who dwelt in the deserts of Arabia. He who conquered many strong cities, will not leave those unconquered that dwell in tents. He will do this to gratify his own covetousness and ambition; but God orders it for correcting an unthankful people, and for warning a careless world to expect trouble when they seem most safe. They shall flee, get far off, and dwell deep in the deserts; they shall be dispersed. But privacy and obscurity are not always protection and security.” – Matthew Henry

Staying power

  • Stay in community with other Believers (alone in the desert)
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
    Hebrews 10:24-25
  • Stay protected (without walls and gates)
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
    Ephesians 6:11 (ESV)
  • Stay Close to God (alone in the desert)
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.
    Psalm 91:1-2

Psalm 91

  • Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.
    Psalm 91:1-2
  • If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.
    Psalm 91:9-11
  • The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
    Psalm 91:14

Something New

“Even the priests and prophets are ungodly, wicked men. I have seen their despicable acts right here in my own Temple,” says the LORD.
Jeremiah 23:11

What has God seen in the houses of worship in my day?

Something To Do

Stay in the power. Don’t live like I can’t be touched by the enemy.
