“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? “
Jeremiah 17:9

Then the LORD gave me this message: “O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.”
Jeremiah 18: 5-6

• Jeremiah is speaking of Judah’s sinfulness in spite of all the blessings of God.
• Jeremiah says their sin is inscribed on the tablets of their hearts. Jeremiah 17:1
• desperately wicked (KJV)
• beyond cure (NASB, ESV)
• terminal, incurable illness
• Total depravity: as the result of the fall of man every part of man- his mind, will, emotions, and flesh- have been corrupted by sin.
• Sin affects all areas of our being including who we are and what we do.
• We sin because we are sinners by nature.
• It recognizes that even the good things man does are tarnished by sin.
• There is no hope of man getting better on his own.
• We need to be made new.

Never be surprised by sin. Be vigilant. The heart deceives.
