The king then asked him, “Is anyone still alive from Saul’s family? If so, I want to show God’s kindness to them.”
2 Samuel 9:3a
What does the kindness of God look like?
- It’s given without a motive.
- It’s given even if I feel the person doesn’t deserve it.
- It’s given even when it’s doubtful it will be returned.
Kindness of God is a fruit of the Spirit
- But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
Kindness of God is based on the truth of Philippians 2:3-4
- Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. (NLT)
Kindness Test
- What are some examples of when I have shown God’s kindness to others?
- Do I have hidden motives when I show God’s kindness to others?
- How often do I seek to show kindness to others?
David did what was right for the people, but built his stables, full of horses and fill his house with more than one wife.
So David reigned over all Israel and did what was just and right for all his people.
2 Samuel 8:15
It’s possible to do the right and the wrong thing in the eyes of the Lord at the same time.
Take the kindness test. Walk in the Spirit so that God’s fruit will be displayed naturally in my life.
