Scripture:

1 SAMUEL 23:13-29, PSALM 54, 1 SAMUEL 24:1-25:44

You’ve Got A Friend In Me

Jonathan went to find David and encouraged him to stay strong in his faith in God.
1 Samuel 23:16

My Takeaways

Something Old

Be the friend I want… the friend I need.

Châzaq – (khaw-zak’) to make strong; to restore to strength, give strength; to strengthen, sustain, encourage; to make strong, make bold, encourage

Jonathan went to David.

He didn’t wait until David called him, or sent a text. They were very close, so Jonathan went to David.

He strengthened David with the truth:

  • “Don’t be afraid.” (1 Samuel 23:17)
  • “You are going to be king.” (1 Samuel 23:17)
  • “I will be beside you.” (1 Samuel 23:17)
  • “I will always be your friend.” (1 Samuel 23:18)

Be the friend who

  • Doesn’t wait for the invitation.
  • Strengthen with truth… all truth.

(Chocolate, coffee, and Netflix binge might help too. Maybe a round of golf, a plate of chicken wings, or a burger. )

Something New

Abigail sure had a lot of food on hand.

Abigail wasted no time. She quickly gathered 200 loaves of bread, two wineskins full of wine, five sheep that had been slaughtered, nearly a bushel of roasted grain, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 fig cakes. She packed them on donkeys
1 Samuel 25:18

Something To Do

Wendy, be the friend you want.
