Scripture:

1 SAMUEL 15:1-17:31

Privacy Matters

So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.
1 Samuel 16:13

My Takeaways

Something Old

The public anointing was the outcome of what had taken place in private between David and God long before.” – Alan Redpath

  • What am I doing in private that is preparing me for the assignment God has planned for me?
  • What am I doing in private that is preventing my readiness for the assignment God has planned for me?
  • Do I even have a regular private time with God?

David made private time with God a priority because he loved God, not because he thought he would ever do anything big for Him.

Even if there isn’t a BIG assignment in my future – actually, every kingdom assignment is big -, our goal should be the same as David’s, to:

  • know God.
  • trust God.
  • worship God.
  • obey God.

Something New

David already had a reputation as warrior.

One of the servants said to Saul, “One of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player. Not only that—he is a brave warrior, a man of war, and has good judgment. He is also a fine-looking young man, and the Lord is with him.”
1 Samuel 16:18

Something To Do

Privacy matters. Don’t compromise my private times with God.
