Scripture:

1 SAMUEL 9:1-12:25

The Case of The Missing Donkeys

So Saul took one of the servants and traveled through the hill country of Ephraim, the land of Shalishah, the Shaalim area, and the entire land of Benjamin, but they couldn’t find the donkeys anywhere.
1 Samuel 9:4

My Takeaways

Something Old

I went on this wild donkey chase because of this one text from Enduring Word

There are two mistakes people make regarding God’s guidance through circumstances. One mistake is to think every event of life is heavy with meaning from God. This is wrong, because though nothing happens by accident, not everything happens for a great purpose. The second mistake is to ignore the moving of God in our lives through circumstances. God wanted to use this situation to guide Saul, and God will often use circumstances in our lives the same way. We need to trust in God’s goodness and in His ability to make all things work together for good (Romans 8:28).

OT
Yâda‛ yaw-dah’: experiential knowledge of God

NT
Ginṓskō (ghin-oce’-ko): experiential knowledge of God

It’s about the experience.

  • God may send me on adventure in order to get me to where He wants me to be.
  • God will use all things for my good and His glory.
  • God desires intimacy with me, so I will trust Him in everything that happens, whether it is an “event for a greater purpose” or just “lost donkeys” I need to enjoy my ya’da with the Lord.

Life with God is an exciting journey. We should really be enjoying it.

Something New

I’ve always wondered by Saul didn’t tell his uncle about everything that happened.

He told us that the donkeys had already been found,” Saul replied. But Saul didn’t tell his uncle what Samuel said about the kingdom.
1 Samuel 10:16

It seems strange that Saul did not tell what he experienced. Perhaps Saul was wise, knowing that the LORD had to reveal him as king over Israel. What point was there in saying, “I’m the king now!” until the LORD declared him king? Or perhaps Saul experienced what many do after a powerful encounter with the LORD: an attack from the enemy, making them fearful and cowardly to tell others what God did.
Enduring Word -David Guzik

Something To Do

Follow God, closely and enjoy the journey.
